Dec 11, 2019 Finnplay gains Denmark licence. December 11, 2019. Nordic-based igaming platform provider and gaming group Finnplay has announced that the Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) has awarded it an online casino licence. It currently lists 47 licensees (online casinos and pool betting combined). The licenses are issued for five years, although one-year, limited-revenue versions of both the online casino and pool betting licenses are available. Among the criteria for obtaining an online casino license in Denmark are the following.
Denmark Online Casino License
Gone are the ruling days of the state owned Danske Spil, because Denmark has an open gaming market since 1 January 2012. Such operations are strictly controlled by the Danish Gambling Authority and, at the moment, the Danish Gaming Duties Act is the one to keep an eye on. Fortunately for iGaming operators, the act favours the free market rules set by the European Commission and asks only a fraction from the gross gaming revenue compared to the land based operators. However, license holders have to keep players’ funds in a separate dedicated bank account, meet strict software testing requirements and have a land based office located in Denmark. Despite that and in contrast to the Italian, French and Spanish laws, Denmark is still friendlier to the operators.
In order to get an online casino license, licensees have to fill in three application forms, which have to be written in Danish, and pay a one-off fee. However, online casino operators still won’t be able to offer bingo, scratch cards or any kind of betting, because these services are divided by the two oligopolists: Danske Spil and Det Danske Klasselotteri.
